In recent happenings, it’s been reported that popular kumawood actor Kwadwo Nkansah, aka Lil Win, has been granted a GH₵50,000 bail with two sureties by the Asokore Mampong District Court in Kumasi. He was released shortly after he was arrested on Monday, June 3, 2024.
His arrest was in respect to a fatal accident which occurred on May 25, 2024 in Kumasi Amakom, where a branded Mercedes Benz Sudan he was driving collided head-on with a private car occupied by a father and his three-year-old child, which resulted in the death of the child.
The incident occurred at about 10 am on Saturday, May 25, this year, near the Grace Baptist Church at Amakom in Kumasi. Lil Win in his branded Mercedes Benz is alleged to have been speeding and eventually collided with a Hyundai Santa Fe vehicle wrecking it beyond repair.
Shortly after the accident, In an interview with a few eyewitnesses at the scene, they reported that Lil Win’s car was heavily impacted, though the extent of injuries to the actor and other parties involved remained unclear. A few hours later it was reported that the other party had their 3-year old son lose his life in the hospital.
“Lil Win was driving from the Amakom stretch to the Akwatia Line stretch, and the other vehicle was coming from the opposite direction. The traffic light was at rest, and when the green light showed, he drove off at top speed amid cheers from bystanders.
“To our surprise, the car collided with the oncoming vehicle in the process,” one witness recounted.
The accident took place just hours before the second premiere of his movie titled “A Country Called Ghana” at the CCB Auditorium at the KNUST.
The actor was arrested by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of Manhyia Divisional Command, right after the actor was discharged from the hospital on Monday morning.
The family of the deceased have been vocal in calling for justice after the death of their relative, but the police said the delay in the arrest of the actor was due to his medical condition.
During the Court Proceedings, Margaret Adjie-Twum, counsel for the actor, prayed for the court to grant her client bail and assured her client will avail himself to the court anytime he is needed, she further stated that her client suffered from serious injuries and required further treatment.
Lil Win is currently under investigation and facing charges of dangerous driving and causing harm through negligence. The case has been adjourned to June 27, 2024 and investigations are still ongoing.
